As we said, a lot of hams don’t even use grounding, so it’s worth doing more research about your specific fixed rig and if others with similar rigs are grounding or not. If you feel you don’t need to ground, and other hams are telling you the same thing, it may not be worth the effort or money to do it.

Step 5: Other safety precautions

Since a fixed ham deals with such high amounts of electricity, any safety features you can get are a good idea. Surge protectors for AC power connections are a good idea, as is a switch in the antenna feed line that switches the current from the antenna to the ground for lightning protection.
